Meet our Principal
A message from Scott Bullock
When I joined East Durham College as Principal and CEO in September 2024, I knew I was joining a college with a proud history, a strong reputation and an incredibly important role within our communities. Every day since then has reinforced that belief.
What inspires me most about East Durham College is our people. I see talented students discovering what they're capable of, dedicated colleagues who genuinely care about making a difference, and employers and partners working with us to create opportunities that change lives.
I believe education has the power to transform lives. Whether you're leaving school, looking to build your career, retraining for a new future or returning to learning later in life, everyone deserves the opportunity to develop their skills, realise their potential and achieve their ambitions.
That belief sits at the heart of our new 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, which sets out an ambitious vision for the future of our college. Together, we are committed to unlocking talent, transforming futures and driving ambition for every student, every employer and every community we serve.
Our mission is simple but powerful: to create confident, skilled people through life-changing education. We want every learner to leave East Durham College with not only recognised qualifications, but also the confidence, resilience and practical skills to succeed in work, higher education and life.
As a college, we're ambitious. We're investing in outstanding facilities, strengthening partnerships with employers, developing new opportunities through our University Centre, and delivering specialist technical education that supports the future workforce of County Durham, the North East and beyond. But while our campuses continue to evolve, one thing will never change: students remain at the heart of every decision we make.

About Scott
Scott Bullock became Principal and CEO of East Durham College in September 2024, bringing more than 25 years' experience in further education.
Throughout his career, Scott has held senior leadership roles focused on improving the quality of education, teaching and learning, curriculum development and organisational performance. Before joining East Durham College, he was Principal of Newcastle College, having previously served as Deputy Principal and Vice Principal. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership positions at New College Durham.
Scott has also contributed to the wider education sector as an Ofsted Inspector, an EFQM Excellence Assessor, a member of the national T Level qualifications design panel, and as Newcastle College Group's representative on the Association of Colleges' National Policy Group for Quality and Accountability.
As Principal, Scott is passionate about creating opportunities that enable every learner to succeed. He is leading the delivery of East Durham College's ambitious 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, working with students, staff, employers and partners to unlock talent, transform futures and drive ambition across East Durham, County Durham and the wider North East.
