Whether you want to work at a primary, secondary or other school, an apprenticeship is a great way to get started.
What Will I Be Doing on a Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship?
A Teaching Assistant (or TA), support teachers and learning activities in schools and nurseries. You may find yourself working with pupils one-to-one, or be working with groups of children. Sometimes, you may even find yourself working with the whole class too!
Some teaching assistants support pupils with special educational needs, disabilities or other specific needs. The exact nature of your work will vary greatly depending on which school you work for, and at what level.
As an apprentice, you can expect to earn while you learn. This means you can earn an apprenticeship wage while the school/nursery you work for also helps you grow your skills and knowledge as a teaching assistant. You'll also receive support from East Durham College, and you may be expected to attend college for further training.
