EDC take part in King's Trust 50th Anniversary Relay
East Durham College is proud to announce its participation in The King’s Trust 50th Anniversary Relay, marking more than 15 years of collaboration with one of the UK’s most impactful youth charities.
Having worked alongside The King’s Trust for over a decade and a half, the organisation is delighted to support this milestone celebration. The anniversary relay highlights the Trust’s enduring commitment to helping young people build confidence, develop essential life skills and unlock opportunities that shape their futures.
The King’s Trust continues to be a vital support system for young people across the UK, offering programmes that help them develop resilience, leadership, and practical skills that open doors to education, employment and personal growth. The 50th Anniversary Relay brings together partners, supporters and communities to honour this legacy and inspire the next generation.
The five-day relay will see delivery partners from across the North East carry a commemorative baton between 18 King's Trust Team locations, travelling by foot, public transport, bike, fire engine and boat. The relay begins in Redcar on Monday 22 June before culminating in Newcastle on Friday 26 June.
As part of the College's leg of the relay, staff will carry the baton from Peterlee Campus through Durham City, including visits to Durham Cathedral and Houghall Campus, before handing it over to Derwentside College to continue its journey.
The relay celebrates five decades of the King's Trust helping young people build confidence, develop essential life skills and progress into education, employment and training. East Durham College has proudly delivered King's Trust programmes for more than 15 years, supporting young people across County Durham to achieve their potential.
The College is delighted to join fellow delivery partners from across the region in marking this important milestone and celebrating the positive impact the King's Trust continues to have on young people's lives.
EDC's part of the relay will begin at our Willerby Grove Campus, where King's Trust staff members Lewis Taylor and Craig Lawson will receive the commemorative baton before setting off on their journey. Following a celebratory photo opportunity outside the campus, they will walk into Peterlee town centre to begin the first stage of the relay.
Travelling by bus to Durham City Centre, Lewis and Craig will carry the baton through various landmarks, including a stop at Durham Cathedral and the riverside, where further photographs will mark their checkpoints. The relay will then continue as they walk to our Houghall Campus, showcasing East Durham College's commitment to supporting young people across the region.
Following a photo opportunity at Houghall, they will travel back into Durham Bus Station on the Arriva 59 service before boarding the Go North East X15 for the final stage of their journey. They will then arrive at Derwentside College, where the baton will be formally handed over to the next relay team, continuing the relay across the North East.
