Accountancy

Accountancy skills are in demand across every sector, from small local businesses to national organisations.  

Our part-time AAT courses are open to adults aged 19 and over, blending flexible online lessons with face-to-face classes – and many students can study for free*.

Accountancy overview

Study for a recognised AAT qualification from Level 1 to Level 3: 

• AAT Level 1 – an introduction to bookkeeping. Learn the basics and build confidence before progressing to Level 2.
• AAT Level 2 – choose to focus your learning on bookkeeping or broaden your knowledge in accounting. Both courses are open to everyone with no previous experience needed.
• AAT Level 3 – our Diploma in Accounting builds on Level 2, focusing on more complex accounting tasks.

How you'll study

AAT courses offer blended learning, in partnership with Mindful Education. Combine online video lessons with weekly face-to-face classes for an engaging learning experience. 

Online, access lessons on demand, from your phone, tablet or computer. Each lesson lasts around 45 minutes, with animations, practice questions and interactive case studies to support your learning. 

On campus, benefit from regular sessions with your tutor, who'll review your progress and provide guidance and assessment support. Group discussion with classmates offers extra motivation as you study.

AAT student membership

Once you register as an AAT student member, you'll have access to: 

• study support, e-learning modules, reading lists and revision courses
• a dedicated helpline for student queries
• career tools, including an online CV builder, interview tips and access to accountancy vacancies on the AAT website.
• exclusive discounts through AAT Additions, covering IT training, holidays, medical insurance and more 

Where it could lead 

Our AAT courses can help you progress into accountancy roles, work towards AAT Qualified Bookkeeper (AATQB) status and offer a route to chartered accountancy.  

If you go on to study with a chartered body (like ACCA, CIPFA and CIMA), some offer exemptions from certain exams based on what you've already completed. 

Fees & funding

Level 2 

Subject to your employment status and earnings, if you don't already hold a full Level 2 qualification, this course is completely free. Scroll to the course page below for full details. 

Level 3 

Our Level 3 course is fully funded for eligible students. Depending on your earnings and local authority area, if you earn below the national living wage and don't hold a previous Level 3 qualification (such as A Levels), you could study for free. 

An Advanced Learner Loan is also available at Level 3. You won't need to start repaying it until you're earning over the threshold.
