Course overview

This course offers an enjoyable and rewarding learning experience for students who want to develop their English language skills. The course is designed to assist learners with communication in their everyday lives whilst living in the UK. ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) improves lives and enhances career prospects, giving many learners the opportunity to progress onto further study or employment.

Topics

Topics that are covered are all intended to assist learners with communication needs. We will cover lessons such as asking and giving instructions, shops and services, travel and signs, talking about yourself to others, and how to have a conversation in English. This course is also intended to help learners go on to further study or employment, and so other routes of education are covered and all employability skills.

Job opportunities after this course

During the course we will look at the routes to employment in the UK and how to secure it. We will practice interview questions and conversations that might arise at work, ensuring that learners are equipped with the communication skills to gain and maintain employment within the UK. We will also cover the reading and written skills that are required for employment, such as reading a job advert and writing a CV or filling in a job application form.

Further study options after this course

The ESOL currently on offer range from Entry 1 to Level 2. Once a learner has completed this, they will be instructed to enrol on our Functional Skills English course which will give them a GCSE English equivalent. Learners may also speak to staff about opportunities for Functional Skills Maths.

There are no formal entry requirements but you will need to complete an initial assessment at enrolment to determine the most suitable course for you.

When does the course start?

The ESOL course is assessed in three areas: Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing. All learners will sit a formal assessment in each of these areas in order to achieve the full ESOL qualification.

The course is delivered through a weekly workshop.
