BTEC Level 3 Award in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering 2025-26

This qualification covers the fundamental skills and knowledge required for Engineering Technicians within the industry, the units will mainly be delivered within a classroom environment and some workshop sessions to practice and underpin the skills and techniques being taught.

The units that will be covered during this course will be as follows:

• Health and Safety
• Communications for engineering technicians
• Mechanical principles and applications
• Computer-aided design
• Engineering drawing
• Mechanical measurement and inspection techniques
• Fabrication processes and technology
• Welding principles
• Welding technology

Following successful completion of the course you will be able to progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering course or move into an advanced apprenticeship in Engineering, on successful completion of the 2 year program learners may carry on with further study to Higher Education.

5 GCSE Grades 9-4 Including Maths and English.

Our entry requirements are in place to support our students in achieving the qualifications they have chosen to study. In addition to the entry requirements, all students will be regularly assessed by East Durham College at an early stage in their study programme. This is to ensure that students are enrolled onto courses which suit their abilities – following assessment, there may be occasions when students are transferred to a relevant course at a higher or lower level in order to ensure they are enrolled on to the right course for them to achieve and progress.

Entry onto any course at EDC may have entry requirements in addition to exam results; this includes but is not limited to DBS checks, references, fitness to practice and at times physical requirements to be capable of achieving the practical elements of the course without assistance. Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal.

Learners will be given the opportunity to achieve either Pass, Merit or Distinction grades in each of the individual units which when combined give an overall grade for the course. Successful completion will allow progress on to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering. The units will be assessed using assignments and some practical work.

1 Year, full time. You may complete a second year and move on to the Extended Diploma. There is an additional fee for year 2.
